Melton Presbyterian Church | The Wider Presbyterian Church

The wider Presbyterian church

There are various levels of authority within the Presbyterian church. The higher you go up, the bigger the group gets. This leads to more accountability and transparency in church matters.

Melton Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbytery of Melbourne West. This group consists all the Presbyterian churches in western Melbourne, represented by the elders, who work together for the good of the gospel and provide checks and balances for the ministry in the various churches.

The Presbytery of Melbourne West is part of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. This consists of all the Presbyterian churches in Victoria. Once a year elders from each of the congregations meet for the General Assembly of Victoria to encourage each other and provide further checks and balances for the ministry in the various churches. The Presbyterian Church of Victoria provides leadership in wider areas of the church's work.

The Presbyterian Church of Victoria joins with the Presbyterian Church in each of the other states to form the Presbyterian Church of Australia. Every three years elders from the churches meet to discuss doctrine, policy and training matters that are important for the church at large. This is the highest court of the Presbyterian Church.
